Moms who won guitars in Sun-News contents give them to teenage sons (5 pm)
LAS CRUCES - Two teenagers are proud owners of new guitars signed by Vans Warped Tour bands after their moms won them in Las Cruces Sun-News-sponsored contests this week.Ann Samaniego was the winner of the Warped Tour Sweepstakes held on the Pulse Facebook page and Las Cruces Sun-News website . Through the sweepstakes, Leonard Banegas, Carmen Marie Cartagena, Victor Contreras and Nita Scott all won a pair of tickets to Warped Tour, held Wednesday at the New Mexico State University Intramural Field. Samaniego was the grand prize winner and in addition to a pair of tickets, also won six CDs, a DVD, two skip-the-line passes, a year's subscription to Alternative Press and an Ernie Ball Music Man Axis Super Sport guitar.
Samaniego, who said she prefers listening to George Strait and other country crooners, gave the Warped Tour tickets and most of the other goodies to her sister and niece who are "into that kind of music." The guitar she gave to her son, 17-year-old Jacob Samaniego, most recently a student at Las Cruces High School. Members of Warped Tour bands The Devil Wears Prada, Less Than Jake, Hellogoodbye, Enter Shikari and The Wonder Years signed the guitar during the Warped Tour Bowling Tournament held June 28 at 10 Pin Alley.
The Las Cruces Sun-News also raffled off a guitar during Warped Tour. The sweepstakes for that guitar was held at the Pulse tent. Las Cruces resident Ana Cardona won the Jackson guitar donated by Hubbard's Music-N-More. Cardona gave the guitar to her son, 15-year-old Rian Gonzalez of San Antonio.
After taking ownership of the guitar, Rian went backstage and got it signed by the band Blood on the Dance Floor, which posed for pictures with him and invited him to watch their show from the back of the stage.
