YOUNGSTERS from Alfriston School visited a care home in Beaconsfield to try to “address the gap between young and old”. Residents of Abbeyfield’s Bradbury House, on Windsor End, swapped skills with the pupils, teaching them to knit and make picture frames, while themselves learning how to play indoor bowls. The week-long initiative, from June 10 – 17, aimed to address issues raised by recent surveys which suggest a lack of understanding between the generations.
FRIENDS of The Gables held their annual plant and cake sale on the council green in Beaconsfield on June 4, raising £364 to provide extra services for their severely disabled residents at their home in Moreland Drive, Gerrards Cross.
STAFF and patients at the South Bucks Hospice have thanked Sainsbury's in Beaconsfield for permitting collections at the store on June 10 and 11, which raised £ 374. If anyone would like to become a volunteer for the hospice, contact the appeals department on 01494 464045.
A DEDICATED competition entrant from Beaconsfield has won a trip to the Bahamas. Suzanne Edwards, who works as an MOD civil servant, won return flights and accommodation in a prize draw at a shopping centre in Uxbridge. She said: “I love travelling so I enter every travel competition going, but I’ve never been to the Bahamas so I’m really excited to have won”.
THE firm which collects rubbish and recycling in Beaconsfield and Gerrards Cross has a new name – after it merged with a larger company. Verdant, which has handled South Bucks District Council’s recycling and refuse collections for over three years, has joined the municipal division of Biffa.
STAFF at Beaconsfield clothes shop White Stuff presented local charity SignHealth with a cheque for more than £1,000 last week. The team raised the funds by holding a customer event earlier this year.
BURKES ROAD resident Julie Elm’hiri won a £1,500 voucher to spend at Beaconsfield furnishing shop Feather & Black, in a competition run by the store. She bought her mum a new bedstead and mattress.

GERRARDS CROSS stylist Danielle Laye was runner-up in a national hair and beauty competition. The employee of Vision on Packhorse Road, impressed judges at the Young Total Beauty Awards in Birmingham. She gave a model a 'total look', including haircut, colour, finish, make-up and clothes, during a tense 30 minute demonstration.
