The purpose of this editorial is to rundown the latest edition of professional wrestling programming by highlighting the various segments and storylines of the show, quickly recounting what happened, how I feel about what happened, and what I want to see out of a storyline or feud going forward. The following Rundown covers the July 1 edition of Smackdown. Mark Henry began his night against Randy Orton trying to beat Orton and potentially earn a slot on the MITB card for the World Heavyweight Championship. However, during his match Big Show's music hit which allowed Orton a chance to RKO the big man in the floor and give Orton the win via countout. Henry would go on to demolish the production area and throw a crew member at least ten feet over a pile of production crates. I am looking forward to the showdown between Henry and Show. I think it will be a big man match the likes of which we haven't seen in years as both of these guys are monstrous and can be extremely agile in short bursts. If they find a good rhythm they could really tell a good story and Henry putting way Big Show will just make him look unstoppable; which is exactly how it should be. Anytime Bryan gets a submission win it's a good thing and I enjoy seeing him branching out of the LeBell lock. They often refer to Bryan as a "submission specialist" so it only makes sense that he would be able to finish a match with more than one hold. He should be capable of turning any situation or move into a potential submission and have a high degree of success in putting his opponents away with those opportune holds. DiBiase got a lot out of this match because of its length, but he needs to find an actual program with someone and not just be Daniel Bryan's holding pattern. I think it says a lot that Slater and Gabriel are in the MITB match (more on that later) and DiBiase is not. He needs to do something shocking soon or he'll be in undercard hell for his entire career. After they both competed in matches earlier in the evening, Christian and randy Orton sat down to sign the contract for their match at MITB. It was not to be, however, as Sheamus showed up to ruin the party and left both men lying with a set of Brogue kicks. Sheamus then ripped their contract in half before walking up the ramp while looking pissed. This was exactly what Orton and Christian needed. Their feud has grown stale and the addition of Sheamus was a long time coming. He has been in and out of their feud the entire time and Orton's punt kick made it pretty much necessary that he get involved somehow. Also, I like the message it sends that Sheamus is back already after suffering a kick that has been blamed for the departure of so many superstars over the years. I really enjoyed seeing everyone, save Cody, get long matches to showcase their talents the night that the MITB match for Smackdown was announced. Sin Cara held his own against the number one contender, Rhodes went over the midcard champion, and Kane put Wade Barrett over by pulling out the Tombstone Piledriver against him. The booking was simple but was nonetheless effective.
