Driving Schulz and his fellow queens to inhabit a womanly persona is the chance to unleash their otherwise repressed feminine side.

“Drag allows me to completely hop out of my body and be this person I might never get to be when I walk into the supermarket to get my milk,” he said.

“You have hair to die for, jewels, the most glamorous dress and you become almost like royalty.”

There was a time when Schulz was so nervous buying women’s wear that he made up an excuse that he was buying for the costume department at his old school.

But now, Panache’s sparkly and sequined dressing room has become so big, it’s taken over Schulz’s parents’ suburban family home.

“My old bedroom is full of wigs, skirts, make-up and dresses, and the poor lounge room is full of props and four long clothing racks of gowns and jackets – we call it Panache’s Warehouse.”
