Dal dopoguerra all'11 settembre. La storia e l'idea di città, al MoMa – New York

Al MoMa – New York una mostra per comprendere come l’architettura faccia o subisca la Storia. Si parte dalle città del dopoguerra, si arriva all’11 settembre 2001. Inaugurata ieri, primo luglio, è visitabile fino al 2 gennaio.

“La Storia è finita”, disse con “autorevolezza” il sociologo americano Francis Fukuyama dopo il crollo del Muro di Berlino. Poche volte la Storia ha conosciuto affermazioni più infelici. Una manciata di anni dopo arrivò l’11 settembre. E tutti sappiamo com’è andata a finire, la Storia. Ancora una sessantina di giorni ed arriverà il momento del decennale, allora le commemorazioni si sommeranno, in tutto il mondo. Storici, ancora sociologi, politologi, analisti ed esperti d’ogni campo delle scibile saranno chiamati a dire la loro. Ci saranno libri, film, documentari ed interminabili ore di televisione a tentare di riallacciare i fili della memoria, e a raccontarci cosa è accaduto prima, durante e dopo quella tragica mattina dell’11 settembre del 2001. La data che ha cambiato la Storia, e dunque ha cambiato il nostro modo di vedere il mondo e immaginare il futuro. Ha cambiato anche il modo d’intendere le città.

“ 194X-9/11: Architetti americani e la città ” è il titolo della mostra che esamina il lavoro di architetti alla luce della storia del rinnovamento urbano negli Stati Uniti. Un arco che dall’idealismo della Seconda guerra mondiale attraversa le critiche successive degli anni ‘60 e ’70 approdando fino alle soglie dell’oggi, il periodo del post-9/11, momento di accesi dibattiti nell’architettura mondiale, catalizzati dalla ricostruzione di Ground Zero. Nelle gallerie di architettura e design del MoMa, il curatore Barry Bergdoll ha organizzato 85 tra disegni e modelli tratti dalla collezione del museo e firmati da rinomati architetti come Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, Louis Kahn, Leon Krier, e Steven Holl .

Dopo oltre mezzo secolo gli Stati Uniti sono nuovamente impegnati in conflitti mondiali e, sulla scia del 9 / 11 e della crisi finanziaria, l’architettura è costretta a riconsiderare lo spazio urbano.

The creature below is straight out of the Malazan Empire book series by Steven Erikson. I picked these books up by accident and have been reading them over the last year. Even though the reading is very difficult at times, because of the complexity of the story and the author’s style, it’s become one of my favorite book series ever. As far as fantasy goes, the Book of the Fallen, is the most epic story I’ve ever read both in size and complexity. I honestly hope to do more art associated with these books as some of the most memorable characters in fantasy literature come from them.

Note: Currently reading the Crippled God, the 10th and last book of the series.
